PUSH THE BOUNDARIES OF YOUR IMAGINATION
SUGGESTIONS ON HOW TO MAKE THE MOST OF YOUR PRIVATE SESSION:
TAKE COMMAND OF YOUR CAMERA. Fully grasp your camera’s capabilities and make it an extension of your creative vision. Many people have difficult learning from a manual. Let’s take your camera in the field and learn. You’ll not only learn WHAT the features are but WHY and WHEN you should use them. If your camera allows, we will customize it to your preferences and shooting style.
MASTER COMPOSITION AND LIGHTING. Look at ways to add impact to imagery. We’ll study design, color, formatting, and match the subject matter to given lighting conditions. Find out what techniques work best for landscape and travel photography.
MAKE YOUR IMAGES SING AND DANCE IN LIGHTROOM. While we don’t have time to do a complete LIghtroom demonstration, we can make serious headway in the Develop module. You’ll learn tips and shortcuts.
HELP YOU DEFINE YOUR CREATIVE VISION. The best way to learn is by doing. Lets practice specific techniques to make you a better landscape and/or travel photographer. We work on learning to see like your camera sees and how to see the world in a way that most non-photographers don’t. Self-actualization in photography is about vision, design, and light – not equipment!
BUSINESS CONSULTATION – MAKE MONEY WITH YOUR OUTDOOR PHOTOS. I’ve been in the business for over 25 years and have been teaching aspiring pros how to break into the business in week-long workshops at Rocky Mountain School of Photography since 2011. Michael can help with many aspects of breaking into editorial markets and how to generate income with your outdoor photography.
As a successful commercial photography team best known for our Alaska work, we have shot assignments, stock productions and personal wilderness trips in Alaska, the Desert Southwest and Rocky Mountains for 25+ years. We have explored and photographed virtually every corner of Alaska since 1988 including the Brooks Range, the Arctic Slope, Denali, Wrangell-St. Elias, Gates of the Arctic, Glacier Bay and Kenai Fjords National Parks and the rainforests of Southeast Alaska. Our images have appeared in countless publications including Alaska, Alaska Airlines, American Airlines, Backpacker, Outside, National Geographic, Ski and many other magazines as well as in numerous catalogs, calendars, greeting cards, and visitor guides.
Together, we have oared the Colorado River through the Grand Canyon, canoed whitewater rivers in Alaska, the Yukon, Idaho and Utah on dozens of multi-week, self-supported wilderness trips. By foot, we have backpacked thousands of miles on the Colorado, Continental Divide and Pacific Crest Trails, the Italian Dolomites as well as in the Grand Canyon, and have explored many walk-in and technical slot canyons in Utah. Let us take you to both iconic easy to reach locations, and/or off the beaten path to truly beautiful inspirational places visited by fewer photographers.
Take your photography to the next level with careful attention to both technical and creative development and mastery of lighting through the eyes of a meteorologist.

“Working with Michael for a private mentoring session took my photography skills to the next level. Michael opened my eyes to creative, new compositions, he taught me how to read the changing light, and he shared new techniques for achieving tack-sharp images. In addition to the wonderful photography learnings, Michael was an entertaining and experienced companion for exploring the canyons of Zion allowing me to see places I had not yet seen or explored.”
