A uniquely personal and exclusive photo tour for photographers of all levels including individuals, couples and any private group up to 4. Non-photographer companions, partners, family members and friends always welcome. Let us arrange a tour tailored to your preferences. We can enhance your one or multi-day event by combining your day(s) with a reputable, guided adventure such as glacier hiking, technical canyon exploration, kayak touring, or remote access via water taxi.

Make memories at special locations. Custom photo adventures can be a one or multi-day event designed to maximize time creating images in inspirational locations and tailored to your preferences. I’ll take you to my favorite places where I know the lighting and seasonal conditions intimately – locations I’ve explored and photographed for years that have yielded successful commercial or personally rewarding images.

You can elect to start your tour with a 1-2 hour Keynote presentation focusing on simple but effective creative techniques designed to help you improve your outdoor photography. Or, skip it in lieu of more time on location. On location, you’ll benefit from my patient approach with attention to both technical and creative development and lighting expertise through the eyes of a former meteorologist.

A satisfied photographer client from one of our New Mexico custom photo trips

As a successful commercial photography team best known for our Alaska work, we have shot assignments, stock productions and personal wilderness trips in Alaska, the Desert Southwest and Rocky Mountains for 25+ years. Lauri and Michael have explored and photographed virtually every corner of Alaska since 1988 including the Brooks Range, the Arctic Slope, Denali, Wrangell-St. Elias, Gates of the Arctic, Glacier Bay and Kenai Fjords National Parks and the rainforests of Southeast Alaska. Our images have appeared in countless publications including Alaska, Alaska Airlines, American Airlines, Backpacker, Outside, National Geographic, Ski and many other magazines as well as in numerous catalogs, calendars, greeting cards, and visitor guides.

Together, we have oared the Colorado River through the Grand Canyon, canoed whitewater rivers in Alaska, the Yukon, Idaho and Utah on dozens of multi-week, self-supported wilderness trips. By foot, we have backpacked thousands of miles on the Colorado, Continental Divide and Pacific Crest Trails, the Italian Dolomites as well as in the Grand Canyon, and have explored many walk-in and technical slot canyons in Utah. Let us take you to both iconic easy to reach locations, and/or off the beaten path to truly beautiful inspirational places visited by fewer photographers.

Take your photography to the next level with careful attention to both technical and creative development and mastery of lighting through the eyes of a meteorologist.

"Landscape photography is my passion in life so when deciding on our next vacation destination, my husband and I wanted something unique. Taos was a place that excited both of us and it was indelibly engraved in our minds and imagination before we even took our first step. Everything about it sounded intriguing: its amazing New Mexican culture, unusual architecture and legendary light and vistas. And so, our mission became finding a photographer who would help us paint these digital “portraits.” We read about Michael DeYoung, a Taos adventure, lifestyle and landscape photographer and figured it was a no brainer.

Our vision was very much on target both with the extraordinary beauty of Taos and our experience with Michael. He knew and understood the landscape, felt passion for the architecture, and was familiar with weather patterns (as a former Air Force meteorologist) which proved to be most helpful.

The most important thing that Michael taught us was no matter what the weather conditions, there are no excuses; you just come back with the shot. Our day turned out to be amazing even with all the earlier weather challenges. It snowed the night before and little did we realize that this would be a gift. We returned home to Charlotte, North Carolina with images we had dreamed about! The Land of Enchantment … it’s that and much more. Our adventure ended with some delightful New Mexican cuisine with Michael and his lovely wife, Lauri (and partner in crime). Our experience in Taos is one we will not soon forget!"
